20" Wheel Single Speed Kids Bikes (Ages 7-9)

A 20-inch wheel bike is generally the right fit for most children aged 7 to 9. The best way to confirm fit is to check that your child can place their feet flat or nearly flat on the ground when seated, and that they can reach the handlebars comfortably without stretching.

Single speed bikes remove the complexity of gears, letting kids focus on building riding confidence and having fun. They are also easier to maintain, which makes them a practical choice for everyday riding around the neighbourhood, school runs, and family outings.

Wheel size is a guide, not a guarantee, as children vary in height and leg length. It is worth checking your child's inseam measurement against the bike's minimum seat height to make sure they can ride safely and comfortably before purchasing. If your child has outgrown their current bike and their knees are rising above the handlebars or they feel cramped while pedalling, it is likely time to size up. A 20-inch non geared bike offers more room to grow while still keeping the ride manageable for this age group.

A lighter bike is easier for a child to handle, steer, and pick up if they fall, so frame weight is worth considering. Look for a bike that feels sturdy without being overly heavy, with brakes that your child can operate comfortably with smaller hands.
